Know Scott Spotson

8/22/2013

Here, Its being great to introduce you to definitely author Scott Spotson. He is one of several great author’s on Goodreads, that's where we met. Scott has written three books: Life II, a period travel novel; Seeking Dr. Magic, a novel that imagines what goes on each time a powerful wizard comes of age being a young man, and wreaks his chaos on the world, which can be yet unaware of his existence; and You Know You’re Thin When…, a humor book using large single panel cartoons. He also includes a great blog and website that I highly recommend you take a look at! I love unique sites and this one certainly ranks available online for as you you’ll remember.

Scott Spotson can be Canadian, which I only mention because I think which is cool and I’m frankly envious. Canada is awesome. And Canadian writers…well, I haven’t met the one that I didn’t like! So look at Scott’s interview and then check out his books!

And now, introducing author Scott Spotson:

1. When have you begin writing?

I began writing since elementary school. I would write out, by hand, short stories, sometimes for classes, sometimes for myself. But nothing can beat novels. I did enter a quick story contest when I involved 10 years old, inside my small town, and I won. I wrote my first novel when I was 20, and yes it was dependant on an appreciation triangle that two young male roommates at university have whenever a new university young woman walks to their lives. Also, one guy was more bookish as the other guy was much more of a James Dean type, and of course, the latter one has got the girl in the long run. (It was a clean young adult piece!) I sent it to one or two publishers, but nothing came of it. This was way prior to the time of the Internet, so I use it the shelf and didn’t write again for several more years.

I started writing again this past year and was amazed at the amount everything had changed. Remembering the previous paradigm, I even sent my new manuscript to a couple publishers, but again nothing came than it. But now that people have easy and relatively cost-free self-publishing, I decided to self-publish this time around, and I adore it. My first book to become published was “Life II,” a period-travel novel.

2. What brought you to the crazy endeavor that is writing and self-publishing?

I honestly didn’t know of the simple self-publishing nowadays. I thought I would once again will need to go through mainstream publishing companies. That’s how dedicated I was. I was relieved afterwards, to determine that one can indeed self-publish without for dozens of books that nobody ever reads. I found out by way of a local newspaper article in regards to a new local author, and I contacted her by email, and she in turn informed me about Createspace. The rest is history.

3. What are your hopes like a writer?

Well, I’d be lying if I didn’t say I hope for being famous as a possible author, and have my works become Hollywood blockbusters and after that retire rich! But my expectations today are modest: to have as numerous readers enjoy my books whenever possible, and truly you can keep them choose to enjoy my books, as opposed to trying to prove myself or take action “for myself.” I think the moment authors start realizing that their books usually are not “in demand” is the second they should attempt to improve, or find new stories to tell, or leave industry to writers who is able to fare best. Happily, I am finding that my books have a traditional market who enjoys them.

4. You have three books published. How long did they take you to definitely write? What is your favorite genre?

YKYTW Cover FinalMy favourite genre will be science fiction, due to future-looking implications, and also the possibility that the unlimited can occur. Life II took three months to publish, after about 30 days of plotting, then about two more months of editing. Seeking Dr. Magic took about a fortnight of plotting, 2 months to write, and 4 weeks of editing. You Know You’re Thin When… is unique, because I actually didn’t do a lot of the book. I wrote the blurbs, nonetheless it took a little while (naturally) for your artists to draw in the cartoons. They’re great!

5. Tell me somewhat bout your books and everything you enjoyed and liked the smallest amount of about writing them.

Life II Book Cover jpg Dec 21Well, Life II is extremely personal to me, as it re-imagines life if you lived it once again, changing everything you can. I also loved the science fiction that intrudes upon a regular life, including watching the Time Weaver after which that weird but incredible incident when Max sits inside a cafe with Lucinda (look at book to learn more). A few reviewers have offered their opinion which they didn’t want very much science fiction in Life II, but I just couldn’t imagine just having Max shuttle into his new life lacking an explanation. Also, I just couldn’t imagine finishing off Max’s new life without having a bit of a bang that ties returning to the Time Weaver. To me, the science fiction elements are what makes Life II deliciously fun to see.

Dr Magic Cover March 9As for Seeking Dr. Magic, I think what is important is the fact that I made it fun to learn, and I tried to set off two super egos that both needed to become decrease and adjust to reality. A lot of people told me they loved both characters, it’s just like a “cat-and-mouse” game, and so they found themselves rooting for one character in a single chapter, then your other in the next chapter, and forward and backward. That’s what exactly I experimented with do. It’s a tome battle devoid of the tired truism which they must fight to the death.

As for which I liked the smallest amount of about writing my books, I think the one thing is my impatience. I have the stories within my head, I want the books to be released a similar day. I find that it is hard to attend to write down and edit, and obtain the covers and acquire them published. I honestly don’t understand how the traditional writers would wait eighteen months or couple of years to obtain their books published through the traditional publishing firms. Wow.

6. How does one develop story ideas? Are you a plotter or does one write on-the-fly?

I’m definitely a plotter. I carry a journal around beside me, and I make note of notes whenever I can. When outside and exercising over the distance, whether it is swimming, cycling, or jogging, may be the best. One time I was with a four hour cycle trip with my loved ones near to home and yes it was actually hard, because I had developed about twenty scenes to the same one book within my head together to try to memorize them so I could write every one of them down later when I got home.
I don’t start writing until I have a coherent plot. I may donrrrt you have every chapter plotted out ahead of time, but I do have every one of the scenes plotted out.

7. Do you might have a work-in-progress? If so, let me know a little more about it.

I have two underway.

One is an appreciation triangle, with the younger generation (but comfortably in their late 20’s, so a lot more like an adult book) where among the two women inside triangle is in reality a witch, even though you wouldn’t realize it from looking at her. I don’t wish to hand out a lot of, but basically this witch leans toward the evil, with bouts of conscience between, and uses her magic powers to gradually get rid of her competition without the other woman knowing about the magic. It’ll be considered a clean read, naturally. “Delusional” must be published by August or September 2013

The other is where four wizards arrogantly, but inside the belief these are benevolent gods that can vastly improve society, take over power in our current Earth. They bring their spirit of advanced knowledge and love of games and competition together, so it’s an interesting study in culture clash. We see what are the results in the event the “mortals,” by way of a Supreme Liaison named Amanda, herself among the humans, react to their new laws and economic reforms. “The Four Kings” should be published by October or November 2013.

8. I met you by way of a Goodreads review group, so I’m guessing you like to read too. What genres do you read?

Really, I come with an eclectic reading preference, it’s quite normal for me to read four books simultaneously, skipping derived from one of to an alternative based on my interest on that day. However, I hate horror or consistently dystopian novels high are few things to cheer for in the book. I also hate preachy books where the author seems interested in sending a message, instead of entertaining. Certainly, books can impart lessons, but if the author can perform so through hooking your interest, that’s a good book.

9. Every Indie author always generally seems to seeking to connect to and attract readers, so I must ask: where can you check out find something new to see?

It’s impossible never to today, numerous books just begging to be read. Through many fellow authors on Goodreads, I can find new indie books to read. I think the situation nowadays is a lot of choice, instead of not enough. And that’s a fantastic thing.

10. What impacts your selection on the to purchase to see? Cover, book blurb, other reviews, sales/price? Which is most significant for you?

I would the story. If there is speculative fiction taking place in the real world, I think that will grab my interest. Some people think of it as magic realism, but I like it at the personal level. If it’s something which happens in my experience as I start my boring life, and it’s certainly impossible, plus it’s in a book, I would love you just read it. That’s why I loved writing Life II. The main character finds himself surviving his life again, also it’s his choice. In Seeking Dr. Magic, a detective finds himself using his wits on something that has not happened in the world before – seeking a magical being who just appears from nowhere. That’s why I loved Back to the Future – a teenage boy finds himself heading back into time for you to meet his parents being exactly the same age as him – what a concept!

Fellow authors, you have provide an extraordinary event happening to a common citizen in the real world, then there is magic or science fiction involved, and there’s some (happy) wonder conveyed, send it if you ask me – I’ll review it for you personally!
